If you visiting South Troendelag without visiting the island of Frøya, you haven't really seen the coast of Central Norway. This municipality is an outpost by the mighty ocean.

Frøya, second largest island in South Troendelag county, located north vest of the beginning of Trondheimsforden. The main island is 147.2 square mile and there are 5400 other islands and islets it provides shelter for the mainland. We find over 150 water with very good fishing opportunity.

The biggest island outside Frøya is: Kvaløya (9.9 square mile), Inntian (4.7 square mile), Uttian (4.5 square mile), North and South Dyrøy (4.1 square mile) and Sauøya (1.5 square mile)

Area 243.77 square mile of this is 8.7 square mile fresh water, 13.26 square mile cultivable land, 0.6 square mile is wood.

The main isl. and the other islands is very flat and marshy with lot of scanty cliffs, but some places particular around Svellingen on North Frøya is there with god luck plant trees, this trees came from neighbor island Hitra. The highest point are on main island, and the name is Piperhaugen and it's 78 meters high.

Frøya have good communication wit ferry to Hitra and also regular boat to Trondheim. The center for local municipal is on Sistranda. Here we find healthsenter and schools and banks.
The inhabitants of Frøya is 4200.

Frøya have very old domicile, many discovery from Fosnaculture, and on North Dyrøy, Skarsvåg and Husvik,  they find flint tools, 7000 - 8000 years old. On Storhallaren is there a cave probable from stone age.

The first church on Frøya was build on fishing village Sula inn the 12 century. If we follow the history it was Holland seamen who was saved from a heavily storm outside of Sula who build the first church.

In the 18 century  the church  was moved to main island on a place call Sletten on North Frøya. They build a new one in 1880 and 800 people came inn to the church at the same time. This one was one of Norway's largest wood church at that time. The church burn down inn 19

On Titran are the build a monolith over the fishermen who died under the heavily gail the night between 13 and 14 October 1899. On Stabben we find Stabben fort, build by Russians and Serbians war prisoner 1940-1944. Titran is located on the southern tip of Frøya facing the roring Atlantic.
