HISTORY
With a career spanning over twenty years, Heart has archived at least 10 gold / platinum albums and over thirty Top 40 singles, which include a #1 album, two #1 singles, as well as sold out world tour.
From their first demos, Heart has been built
around the combine talents of Ann Wilson,
the group's lead singer and lyricist, and
her younger sister Nancy Wilson, the
group's
composer and guitarist.
However, Heart `s roots go back before that to 1963, then bassist Steve Fossen joined with lead guitarist Roger Fisher formed a band called "The Army". The group changed their name to "White Heart" and then around 1967 decided on just Heart. This lineup also featured keybordist Howard Lees and drummer Micael Derosier.
With this lineup in place Heart became a big
hit on the Seattle / Vancouver bars and club
scenes.
In 1975 Heart signed with Mushroom Records, a small Canadian label. That same year Heart released their debut album. "Dream boat Annie", which sold over 30.000 copies in Canada. The record came out in 1976.
Unable to secure U.S. distribution the album
was exported to the Pacific Northwest.
With little fanfare, the album sold 25.000
copies in Seattle alone. Shortly thereafter Heart was the opening act for
the Loggins & The Jefferson Starship tours.
In 1976 Heart spent 10 months on the road playing over 200 concerts before 15 million people. All the hard work finally paid of. "Dream boat Annie" went Platinum and spawned a Top 100 hit "Magic Man".
Midway through the recording sessions for their
second album, "Magazine"
Heart signed with Portrait Records. Fearing that a Court order might prevent
the release of any new material Heart rushed out its Portrait debut
album "Little Queen" in
May of 1977.
The album achieved double platinum status
and produced the huge hit "Barracuda".
Mushroom Records legally won the right to release
"Magazine".
However Heart was allowed to re-record five vocal tracks and remix the
album.
"Magazine"
was released in April 1978, the album achieved platinum status and produced
the hit "Heartless".
That same year Heart released "Dog
& Butterfly" which was also certified
double platinum.
In 1979 Roger Fisher left the band. Heart later carried on as a quintet releasing the album "Bebe Le Strange" in March of 1980. The album reached the Top 5, and became their highest charting release to date.
In 1982 Steve
Fossen and
Michael
Derosier were replaced by bassist Mark
Andes and
drummer
Denny
Carmassi.
In 1986 Heart signs with Capitol
Records
and on 25 of June same year they released
the album "Heart",
an album which went straight to #1 and spawned four Top 10 singles "These
Dreams" peak chart position #1,
"Never"
peak
chart position #4, "What About
Love" peak chart
position #10, and "Nothing At All" peak
chart position #10. The "Heart" album
has sold more than 5 million copies in the U.S. alone and earned Heart
the first of four Grammy nominations.
Released on 15 of Mai 1987 "Bad
Animals", an album which peak chart position
#2 and produced two Top 10 hits "Alone" peak
chart position #1 and
"Who
Will You Run To"
peak chart position #7. The history says that
Ann don`t like
the demo of "Alone".
She refused to sing it! The band succeeded in talking here round to sing
it, and we all know that this song became a Hughes hit!
In 1990 Heart released "Brigade" an album which peaked at #3 on the charts and produced the hit "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You", peak chart position #2.
In 1991 Heart released "Rock
The House Live!". This record was recorded
in Worcester,
Massachusetts at The Centrum on 28 of November
1990. I hardly recommended this record for those ho not have any record
of HEART, and want to by something to start with.
In 1993 Heart released "Desire Walks On" released 8 of November 1993, an album which included the Top 40 hit, peak chart position #30 "Will You Be There (In the Morning)".
Heart returned in 1995 with the album "The
Road Home" released in November, a
collection of some of their greatest hits
performed acoustically. The song "The Road
Home" was recorded during the wildly successful
five-nigt stand at Seattle's Backstage club in August 1994.
In 1995 they also released "Heart definitive collection"
In 1997 came the album "These Dreams Greatest Hits" This is a album with all of Heart most popularly songs.
In year 2000 they give out another best off album "Best off Heart 1985 - 1995". Here they have take all the best from this period, but this must be something the record company have get to geather, because for all of uss ho have there albums something missing. If Heart should give out a best of album with all the best of songs from the debut album and up to day, this will be more then one CD or LP. They should give out a Hughes box set believe me.
We are MANY fans of this ban world wide, aren't
we? Please mail me if so!
We also now understand why Heart was dubbed
"Little
Led Zeppelin", by Led Zeppelin themselves.
Heart has achieved superstar status and are
in the company of only the elite few bands that have had Top 10 albums
and singles in the 1970`s, 80`s and 90`s and undoubtedly will
continue to do so into the 21st Century and
far beyond.
The last things you can say about Heart is, the dream come true. A true testament of the power of music when it's delivered straight from the Heart.
Please feel free to open your Heart, and send me a mail ore write a comet inn my guestboock, thank you!:-)
